Deanna Martin
19 years old
Seattle, Washington.  USA

Currently a college student, Deanna speaks English, Russian and a number of Asian languages.  She is active with a wide variety of social and environmental organizations.  Her community service work was recognized in 1994 with an invitation to participate in a national forum at the White House.  Recently, Deanna studied at the United Nations in Switzerland and spent a semester in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Deanna is interested in sustainable development because, as she says, "It is time for us to focus on human and environmental centered development rather than money centered development."  In the past, she has worked with kids afflicted with diabetes, helped organize the womens conference preceding the conference in Beijing, and helped compile a report for Womens International League For Peace and Freedom in Switzerland.

Writing, community service, reading, hiking, dancing, listening to music, and swimming are the activities that Deanna most enjoys.  She also likes to support people she loves.  Deanna describes herself as genuine, empowering and empowered, inspired, creative, and adventurous.
