Emma Kasiga
Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania

Emma is a recent high school graduate from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.  Since its inception in 1991, she has been an active participant with the Jane Goodall Institute's "Roots & Shoots" program.  On their behalf, she helped organize youth conferences in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam which reached hundreds of high school students.  As a result of her work, Emma was invited to study environmental education at the American International School in Dar es Salaam.  Emma also taught environmental topics in several Tanzanian elementary schools.  In 1995, she represented Tanzanian youth at the Woman's International Conference in Beijing.

As you might imagine, Emma is interested in environmental problems, because the earth will not be able to continue to sustain if current trends continue.

Swahili, Chagga, English, a moderate amount of French and a bit of German are the languages that Emma has mastered.  Emma lives with her parents and 5 brothers and sisters.  She describes herself as friendly, outgoing, collected, warm and eager to learn.

Dar es Salaam is known as the Business Center of Tanzania.
