This is the third day ot the Summit and time is just flying by! So much information in just three days!
Today we focused on the environment. It was really interesting stuff, but the best thing that came out of it was that we decided to create our own solutions. We decided to create something called the Global Youth Alliance. You can see more information about this in the Youth Agenda section of this Web site later this week. The work we did today somehow made things seem more real.
We're still working out the details of how the alliance will work, but it sounds great so far. I know I'll do everything I can to make it work. It's exciting because I had a project in mind regarding an educational model for the 21st century. At first, I didn't really know how I could accomplish my goals but now I have a clearer idea. It's like climbing a treeit's impossible to jump to the top right away but you can do it if you use the branches. I know that it takes time, it'll be hard and will even hurt sometimes, but we finally will reach it, all together.
We can say it's impossible to change anything because we're alone, but we've got youth here from 29 countries. That's a good chunk of the world. We just need to believe that we have great power. We need to take the step, move out of our comfort zone. We do that every day here. We support each other and this makes us stronger branches in the tree. The adults are happy to help us, the staff is doing everything they can, and each of us is really trying too.
I think the first thing to do is to interest more people and get friends involved, to share the experience we're getting here and love everybody in the world. I'm really thinking about what I can do.
One other interesting thing. I was little when Gorbachev was president so everything I knew about him was from an adult's perspective. Nobody really likes him in my country ( a former part of the U.S.S.R.). But when I heard him speak, I learned that he is the person that started my country's big changes. A lot of people don't like the changes but I think he was thinking the right way. |
